Comprehensive rehabilitation of a historic building in the center of Girona. This is an emblematic building in the Old Town of Girona, believed to have housed the ancient Royal Court of the city. The property, with the ground floors still in use as commercial premises, was in a state of general degradation in the apartments, affecting nearly 80% of the constructed area.
The intervention has involved a comprehensive rehabilitation with structural intervention in 20% of the building, including the complete replacement of the roof and part of the original staircase. Once the existing structure was cleaned, the layouts were completely redefined to adapt them to new housing units intended for conventional rental.
The resulting apartments are comfortable, functional, and suitable for current needs, with the incorporation of a new elevator that improves connectivity between floors without altering the listed facade. The interior design combines original elements of heritage value with a carefully selected array of materials, chosen with consideration for the urban environment and the historical memory of the building.
The intervention preserves and highlights a unique legendary element: an integrated "eye" in the facade, linked to an ancient legend of Girona that is part of the local collective imagination.
